About Simon Wheatcroft
Simon Wheatcroft is a remarkable ultra-marathon runner who completes distances of 50 to 100 miles despite being completely blind. Diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa as a teenager, he lost his sight entirely by the age of 27. Refusing to let his condition limit his ambitions, Simon taught himself to navigate through sound and physical sensation. This determination was born from a pivotal moment in Yosemite National Park, where the dangers of his vision loss prevented him from reaching a summit to propose to his partner. Vowing never to quit a challenge again, he began training by running between goalposts on a local pitch, eventually progressing to open, high-traffic roads.
His journey has seen him tackle some of the world's most hostile environments, including an ultra-marathon across the North African desert and a unique challenge that involved running 250 miles from the RunTracker offices in Boston to the start of the New York City Marathon. Simon has consistently leveraged social media and partnerships with technology giants to pioneer new ways of navigating the world. He now collaborates with world-leading institutions and corporations, including Google, IBM, and MIT, to develop innovative technologies that assist others in overcoming physical barriers.
As a speaker, Simon explores the intersection of human resilience and digital strategy. He offers a compelling narrative on how adaptability and inclusive design can lead to extraordinary achievements. Audiences book Simon for his unique perspective on overcoming adversity and his expertise in using technology to redefine the limits of human capability.
