About Professor Sue Black
Professor Sue Black is a celebrated computer scientist and digital evangelist who gained national prominence for spearheading the successful campaign to save Bletchley Park. By leveraging the power of social media to preserve the home of the World War Two codebreakers, she demonstrated the profound impact of modern digital communication on heritage and technology. Currently serving as a Professor of Computer Science and Technology Evangelist at Durham University, she also advises the UK Government on the enhancement of digital services.
Overcoming personal challenges as a single parent to earn her PhD, Professor Black has dedicated her career to opening doors for others. She established BCSWomen, the first online network for women in tech in the UK, and founded initiatives such as #techmums and TechUPWomen to support individuals from minority backgrounds. Her extensive contributions have been recognised with the 2018 Lovie Awards Lifetime Achievement Award and a place on the list of the top 50 women in technology across Europe.
Author of the book Saving Bletchley Park, she is a frequent media contributor who has appeared on Desert Island Discs and Woman’s Hour. Organisations seek her for her unique ability to blend technical expertise with a compelling narrative on social media advocacy, digital transformation, and the vital necessity of inclusive workplace cultures.
On stage, Professor Sue Black is best known for talks on Digital Business & Strategy and Diversity & Inclusion. Audiences leave with a clear, practical view of the subject rather than a generic overview — every keynote is shaped around the brief and the room.
