About John Bishop
John Bishop is a renowned Liverpudlian comedian and presenter who rose from the comedy circuit to prime-time television in exceptionally short order. His career began after an impromptu open mic performance in Manchester, which led to him becoming a finalist for the Daily Telegraph and BBC New Comedy awards within a year. Before his transition to entertainment, he worked as a medical representative in the pharmaceutical industry and played semi-professional football for numerous clubs including Southport and Hyde United. This diverse background informs his observational style, covering themes of parenthood, sports, and his experiences growing up in the North West.
Now a television staple, he has fronted major series such as John Bishop’s Britain and The John Bishop Show, alongside appearing in the teen drama Skins and Ken Loach’s film Route Irish. His live comedy credentials are equally impressive, having performed sell-out arena tours including Elvis Has Left The Building at Wembley Arena and the subsequent Sunshine tour. More recently, he expanded his acting repertoire by playing the companion Dan Lewis in the long-running series Doctor Who from 2021 to 2022. He is also highly regarded for his philanthropic efforts, notably raising more than £4 million for Sport Relief.
Audiences book John Bishop for his effortless deadpan delivery and his ability to find humour in the mundane realities of modern life. He remains a high-profile choice for major events due to his relatable storytelling and established status as one of Britain's most successful entertainers.
On stage, John Bishop is best known for talks on Comedy, Entertainment, Stand-up Comedy and TV Presenting. Audiences leave with a clear, practical view of the subject rather than a generic overview — every keynote is shaped around the brief and the room.
